phpBB conversion of Fogbow Forum

It needs a lot of work. Don’t even suggest improvements yet. 😉

PHPBB FORUM IS UP AND RUNNING!

http://thefogbow.com/forum

I have sent new passwords to all but 3 of you, and I don’t know which 3, nyuk, nyuk. Check your email, and if you can’t log in, you may beg and plead with me at foggy@thefogbow.com.

1:35 p.m. — They’re done, folks. Woot. Now I need to move the installation to the same URL as the IPBoard forum. This should take less than an hour, then a bit of testing, and I think I’m on track for 3 p.m. still.

12:25 — I got delayed leaving the house. They’re deleting the identifiers now. They’ve installed the password sending tool. We’re nearly there, folks, but I have to walk. I **think** we’ll be online again well before 3 p.m., and our long national nightmare will be over.

12:00 p.m. — They’re testing to make sure everything is working properly. In running the scripts, they gave every forum and every thread an identifier, which has to be removed after they’re done checking. Then the password emails go out. I’m going to go do my daily 4 mile walk. Back about 1:15.

OH WHAT A DAY! WHAT A LOVELY DAY!

ARVE Error: The video is likely no longer available. (The API endpoint returned a 404 error)

10:30 a.m. — THEYRE IN THE FINAL STAGES, FOLKS.

REMINDER: They are going to send you an email with your new password. They can’t carry over passwords so everyone gets a new password. If your email address that is registered with the forum is an address you can still access, you should be getting a new email address later today, not sure how much later but not very long, I think.

Once you log in with your new password, you can change your password to whatever you normally use.

10:00 a.m. — BY JOVE I THINK THEYVE GOT IT. WOO HOO!

Only one remaining step, which is to remove some identifiers from the forums and threads. I don’t think that will take long. I hope that we’ll be back online within the next hour or so. Cross your fingers!

9:20 a.m. — Sent them another email asking for a progress report. By gum, I’m gonna hang in there!

8:15 a.m. — No further word, but if I don’t hear from them by 9 a.m. I’ll send another reminder/request for confirmation.
WE ARE GOING TO GET THIS DONE TODAY, OR HEADS WILL ROLL!

6:15 a.m. — They say they’re working to fix the issues I pointed out.

6:00 a.m. — New email from me to the conversion team:

It has now been an hour since I sent you an email with screenshots and detailed information regarding the missing posts.

May I have confirmation that you received that email and are working to restore the missing posts?

They want to play “Did you get my email?” Yeah, I can play that game too.

5:00 a.m., July 24 — Now they’re saying they told me they finished yesterday and I didn’t get the email. Uhh, no. I was looking for that email all goddamn day, and it didn’t go to spam either. Oh, well. So I checked what they have and they’re still missing a lot of posts. I sent them a very detailed explanation with screenshots just now, showing them that they are missing 66 posts from “Hijack This Thread” and 99 posts from the “Conversion back to phpBB” thread. I told them to keep trying and I would wait all day, but get it done. The memberlist looks good, and when they get all the posts I’m going to open up the new board. Again, I apologize for this inexcusable delay. Grrrr some more.

An omen — today’s Word of the Day from Wordsmith.org is Stygian.

MEANING:
adjective:
1. Dark or gloomy.
2. Hellish.
3. Unbreakable or completely binding (said of an oath).
4. Relating to the river Styx.

Uhh … that’s not good!

9:00 p.m. — I’ve looked at it and they’ve almost got it, but once again there are a few threads missing. I reckon I’m going to give them until tomorrow morning. If I haven’t heard from them, I’ll open up the forum at 5 a.m., but if they get it done within an hour or two after that I’m going to go with what they have, so don’t post anything you don’t want to risk losing. I apologize for the delay and thank everyone for your patience. Mañana.

8:00 p.m. — Maybe they got hit by an asteroid. I’ll try to stay up until I hear from them.

While we’re waiting, here’s a clip of Arpaio diving into the birther pool again with Jake Tapper on CNN.

7:00 p.m. — I sent them an email asking for a progress report, reminding them that the forum has been offline for 14 hours already. Grrr.

5:30 — Still no word. Still too early to panic.

4:00 p.m. —  Nuttin’ honey.

3:00 p.m. — Search parties are digging frantically through the rubble. But I know the conversion folks want to get paid, so I trust they are working hard to get the new phpBB forum up and running. I’ll check email every ½ hour.

1:10 p.m. — Still no word. I’m leaving the house for an hour or so. Back soon.

12:00 p.m. — Still no word. It may take a few more hours, folks. Please be patient!

10:05 a.m. Eastern — The only word I’ve received is “We’re working on it.” They told me from the start that the final step takes several hours. On the bright side, there’s been no bad news. More will be revealed!

More Mountains, High Desert …

Yesterday we traveled from southern Utah to northern Arizona and then southern Colorado. I can’t get bored on roads like this: We made it to  Vermillion Cliffs in short order, but it turned out there isn’t really a developed park like in some places we’ve been. We expected a road touring through the cliffs, but all […]

Vacation Reconfiguration

It’s been tough trying to find wi-fi and time to process photos and write posts, but here’s what we’ve been doing: Yellowstone National Park was a big disappointment all around. Tuesday, as I described, we woke up in Shell Creek Campground in the awesome Bighorn National Forest. We then traveled to Yellowstone. I had spent a […]
